Wow, what a season! From the time I finished my last exam in April until the first few days of class this fall I have been focused on one thing - paddling. Between work and personal paddling trips I drove some 15,000 km this summer. Spring was spent creeking in the west. July, coaching slalom and freestyle with a trip out East to the Nationals on the Gull, the Ottawa and Manitoba's Sturgeon Falls. August, I trained for the National Freestyle Team Trials then I took off for a run down the Stikine. The Stikine was the highlight of the summer and a perfect end to a great season.
I made this video for the first annual Aquabatics Film Festival. It's a fun local film competition and really more of a season wrap up party than a serious competition. The showing was great with over 120 people showing up to view and vote on the 8 entered films.
I called my film Yoho, which is Cree for "Amazing". It's a season re - cap for me, from Creeking in the Spring in Alberta and BC for "Locals Only" all the way up to the Stikine at the end of August and everything else in between. If you haven't already checked it out, the Stikine pictures and write up are here. I can't wait to get back and run it again, it was fun in every sense of the word.
Thanks to Kelsey Thompson, Blair Trotman, Adrian Cole, Pavel Bendle and Jeff Germaine for the photos. Most of them are Kelsey's so go check out his site http://www.localsonlymovie.com/index.php.
Anyway, here is Yoho. Make sure to up the resolution in the bottom right hand corner after pressing play, it looks much better in HD
