Name: Casper Van Kalmthout

Bio:
Born on the 17th of October 1985 in The Netherlands. Started kayaking in 1995. The advantage of being a Dutch kayaker is that the flat country provokes you to travel as much as possible to the mountains. This is how a hobby turned into a passion for surfing big waves, running big rapids and enjoying the lifestyle, fun and foolishness that comes with this sport and all the people around it. For these reasons my kayak has brought me all the way to New-Zealand, Australia, South-America, California, Canada, Uganda, China, Mexico and a great variety of European countries. At home I play on the ocean waves. Besides kayaking I finished a study a Master of Business Administration at the University of Amsterdam and work as the European athlete manager for Wavesport and Double Dutch paddles.

Hails From: Scheveningen (Netherlands)

Favourite River: Rhine, the only river that has world class white water and eventually crosses the Netherlands (flat).

Favourite Level Six Gear: My Chochee short sleeve dry top. Paddling with short sleeves, without getting any water into your boat! Yeah.

Story: Grew up in the Netherlands (Den Haag), started kayaking since 1995, first competed on the Pre-Worlds in Graz in 2003. Been everywhere since. Mainly a freestyle paddler, as it is much easier to practice for a Dutch, but get in a creek boat as soon as I get the change.

Plans for this summer: After trips to Quebec, Vail (USA), Austria, France, Switzerland and Germany, I’m very happy to go home and enjoy the last bit of summer in Scheveningen. On schedule now Lowlands Festival, but I’m sure there will be some kayaking to be added soon.

Claims to fame (other than being a level six athlete): Published in Playboy magazine in 2008 for being a kayaking athlete.
